Western Canada’s energy sector could be headed for a period of rapid growth, if a new export pipeline for oil gets financial backers and a green light from government.

There are so many forces that could stand in the way of those ambitions. But there is also a renewed sense of optimism in the oilpatch that a change in tone from Ottawa could set the stage for a new era of investment and expansion.
